WTF!!!!!
A 23-year-old journalism student has been sentenced to death for reading about woman's rights today, January 31st. The Islamic court in Afghanistan, charged the student with blasphemy after downloading a report from a Farsi website that stated that Muslim fundamentalists who claimed the Koran justified the oppression of women had misrepresented the views of the prophet Mohamed. This man's efforts to provoke debate on the matter at his university by passing out the report to students and teachers ended in his arrest, a trial by religious judges (this is not Taliban times, mind you) without legal representation and his death sentence! Craaaazy! The Independent newspaper is launching a campaign today to secure justice for Mr Kambaksh. You can sign their petition here: http://www.independent.co.uk/petition (i just signed it). The UN, human rights groups, journalists' organizations and Western diplomats have urged Mr Karzai's government to intervene and free him. But the Afghan Senate passed a motion yesterday confirming the death sentence. This makes me so sad.

Prodigy goes to the Slammer
A little late on this news... sucks to be Prodigy right now. Got busted for the possession of crack and herb and also for an "unlawful possession of a firearm", back in October of 2007. He was granted a 30 day stay after being hospitalized and admitted into the emergency room on January 7th. Sources say that he suffered from complications from Sickle Cell Anemia and was released the same night. He began his three and a half year prison term on Januray 8th. Dizaaaaaaaam!! Stop while you can...
So i watched President Bush's FINAL state of the Union Speech (thank the Loooord)last night. He tried to state his goal about fundamental issues of war, and how he wants to make an effort to get the troops out of Iraq. He also discussed his desire for peace (ya sure) and our troubled economy. He stated that although the economy is slowing, "in the long run, Americans can be confident about their economic growth." Ummm to late for that Bush. California itself is experiencing a recession as we speak. I give him an "A" for effort for trying to win back America's trust, but i think he's too late. Nice try!

Huckabee
The Shit talking begins.
So I hope you guys been keeping up on the presidential debates lately. There's been alot of different views toward each candidate, and Obama seems to be at the center of it all. Hilary Clinton continues to claim that Obama is not ready for the White House. "He was a part-time state senator for a few years, and then he came to the Senate and immediately started running for president," she says dismissively. Obama's accomplishments are much more than Clinton seems to claim. Obama was a community organizer and led a voter-registration effort in Chicago that added tens of thousands of people to the rolls. He was a civil rights attorney and taught at one of the nation's premier universities. He helped pass complicated measures in the Illinois legislature on the death penalty, racial profiling, health care and more. In Washington, he has worked with Republicans on nuclear proliferation, government waste and global warming. This is just a run down of SOME of the things he has done. Either way, whether your a democrat, republican, idependent, green party, what ever, atleast get your facts right as to who you want to vote for. Don't be one of those people who after the elections, complain and complain about how shitty our government is and how you wish for the better. Make that effort and VOTE people! seriously. My 89-year old grandma even votes (thanks to tia amarilyz). There's no excuse. Enough of my political talk..... peace

Beisbol
Finally D.R gets its oveR due credit for having the BEST baseball players in the MLB.
I was extremely excited tO see this documentary, being that DR never gets cRedit for making up a huge percentage of the MLB. Its crazy when I mention that im dOminican the only other person people can think of is Sammy Sosa sheesh come on D.R produces many other great baseball players like A. RoD (hes tO sexy gotta make sure to mention him), Manny Ramirez, Vladimir Guerrero, Pedro Martinez, etc. the list goes on and on. Although the documentary shined light on many great Dominican players it also shows how the MLB exploits D.R natives in search for the next Sammy Sosa. Instead of investing all of this money into baseball camps I wish we would see moRe educational camps.

DisplaCe Me...
Displace me is a cool event that the organization invisiblechildren organized. The event called for people to abandon there comfort of there everyday living style to live in a cardboard box for a day with just water and crackers for food...This event took place within several different cities and states...The motives behind this event was to demand peace in northern Uganda...This event has drawn the attention of our country policy makers...Hopefully this war will come to an end...I cant help to believe that if this genocide was occurring in any "White" country more awareness and assistance may have been provided but being that its happening in Africa little is being dOne. This war among the african natives has been going on for over five years and yet there still no end...sO if our government is not willing to provide help then we must take action... events like DISPLACE ME is definitely a staRt... log on to invisiblechildren.com to find out when DiSPLACE ME is in your towN.

Obama wins 1st place!
Madness in Kenya
On December 27, 2007 Kenyan voters cast their ballots for the next president. They consider the election the closest race in the nation's history. Raila Odingo was the favored candidate in pre-election polls and many people were sure of him winning presidency over current President Mwai Kibaki. With each side accusing the other of rigging elections, it seems as though there will be no common ground. Check out this video from Current TV, you'll get a better understanding of the chaos going on in Kenya right at this moment.
